NZ Diploma in Engineering (Electrical) Level 6. Duration of study  – two academic years (20 months). Cost per course – 22400 NZD (15 700 USD).

 

About the Course

The aim of the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Electrical) is to provide skilled and competent technicians with an electrical engineering qualification who:

  • Will apply engineering theory to practice and competently perform technical operations to the standards and ethical and professional responsibilities required by the engineering profession;
  • Have a knowledge sufficient to permit informed, rational decision making in a specialist field of engineering and to implement these decisions;
  • Will work collaboratively with construction workers, clients, authorities, agencies, industry and other professionals to provide a comprehensive engineering services in the relevant specialist area; and
  • Have an understanding of different cultures and in particular awareness and clear understanding of tangata whenua and the implications of the Treaty of Waitangi and the Resource Management Act.

It is expected that graduates will attain the educational underpinnings and the work-ready attributes defined in the IPENZ Graduates Profile for Engineering Technicians. The graduate profile is defined by IPENZ and is benchmarked internationally to exemplar graduate attributes for graduates of technician education programmes recognised under the Dublin Accord.

Entry Criteria

  • A minimum of 48 credits at level 2 in four subjects including at least 12 credits in mathematics OR; Equivalent qualifications e.g. International Baccalaureate or Cambridge OR: Equivalent credits from appropriate trades training and/or  demonstrated skills and experience;
  • A minimum of 8 literacy credits at level 1 or higher including 4 reading and 4 writing

English Entry

  • IELTS overall band score of at least 5.5 (Academic), no individual band less than 5.0

which will replace the real IELTS and will be used by the institute for immigration purposes at the time of applying for study visa.

Electrical Compulsory Papers (All of the following)

  • DE4401 Electrical and Electronic Principles
  • DE5403 Electrical and Electronics Principles 2
  • DE6499 Engineering Project

Electrical Elective Papers (four elective papers)

Power Specialisation Papers (all of the following if specialising in Power)

Electronics Specialisation Papers (all of the following if specialisation in Electronics)

Following this Qualification

Further Study

After graduation from Diploma Level 6, and deriving a Job Search Visa by student for employment, his family, partner and children allowed to get work visa (partner) for employment for any job position and Domestic student visa (for children) for attention school for free of charge.

Student can continue study for:

  • Bachelor of Engineering/Engineering Technology
  • Graduate Diploma in Engineering
